In the central Chamber of the great mound is the largest example of a decorated stone basin i Europe. The unique design echoes several similar designs on the stones of the perimeter. The ancient name for Knowth is Cnocha, the mound of the Goddess Bó, to whom the Boyne Valley is dedicated. Cnocha is the most highly decorated Neolithic site in Europe.
