The finely carved stone known as the 'Mace Head' is a very special ceremonial stone that was found in the most auspicious position within the inner chamber of the great mound. The ancient name for Knowth is Cnocha, the mound of the Goddess Bó, to whom the Boyne Valley is dedicated Cnocha is the highly decorated Neolithic site in Europe.
