Many of the yarns in this book were broadcast by Angela & Padraig on RTE radio's Sunday Miscellany programmes. Angela's "Nicky & Ricky" and "Soapy" deal with dating and two-timing in the fifties.

Her "Snout of the Withered Bushes" and Padraig's "A Taste of the Black Stuff" are about the hazards and hardships of country lodgings before the advent of electricity and running water in the houses.

Padraig was a finalist in the Bard of Armagh competition eight times with "Me Operation", "Lukin' for a Woman", "Visitors from Hell", "I Wish I'd Luk after Me Hair" and other rude rhymes.

He was runner-up in the Political Satire section in Strokestown Poetry Competition in 2002 and in the Bard of Oriel in 2012.
